TAKE CARE OF A SCAR

Wound healing is a process through which tissues repair themselves after being damaged. On the skin any aggression such as burn, abrasion, wound or surgery can heal producing a scar. Several factors influence the final result, such as the cause of the injury, the depth of the damage, the evolution of the cure, the appearance of a keloid and the presence of infection or excessive inflammation. The area of the body where the scar is located is also very important, as is the surgical technique when it comes to surgery or dermatological procedures.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF A SCAR

The normal healing process extends over several months from the time the injury occurs. During the first three months there is a lot of activity, inflammation and internal organization of the structures to replace the tissue damaged by fibrosis. Normally, during the first few months, the scars have a reddish color and are hard in consistency. As time goes by, there is a restructuring of the fibers that form the internal structure of the scar. The end of the process is reached approximately one year later when the healing process ends with stabilization and progressive softening. In this final phase, the scar usually has a more whitish color, widens and softens.

PROTECT THE SCAR FROM THE SUN

In order for the healing process to culminate with the best possible aesthetic result, it is very important to keep the scar hydrated on a regular basis. During the first 4 months is when this constant and maintained hydration with a triphasic Masderm product is most important, in addition to protecting the scar from the sun with asuitable photoprotector. To achieve this, Aloe vera together with the combination of Rosehip with fat-soluble vitamins provide the necessary hydration and care to improve the evolution of a scar. Once the stitches are removed I always recommend applyingTriphasic Facial Serum twice daily. If the products are Animal cruelty free and vegan friendly, much better!!

There are other dermatological treatments to improve the appearance of scars: dermatological peels, microneedling, hyaluronic acid, dermabrasion, non-ablative laser, CO2 fractional laser and IPL.

Each scar is unique, so an individualized assessment by the specialist is necessary to recommend the best treatment plan for each scar.
