One of the most common concerns in dermatological surgeries that I perform daily is the question that all my patients ask me before operating: ¿“Doctor, I will have a scar”?

Whenever surgery is performed, a scar remains, but each skin is different, each area to be operated on heals differently, so the aesthetic results of surgery depend on multiple factors.

When we operate, a wound is produced in the skin and the body acts to defend itself biologically through its healing to repair and close the wound as soon as possible.

It is important to bear in mind that the results of any healing on the skin will depend on its evolution and the care we take of it.

Below I am going to detail some tips on caring for a scar based on its location on our skin:

  • If you have had surgery on your back or chest, the probability of producing hypertrophic scars or keloids is high. In these areas it is advisable to rest relatively and not carry weights to avoid the dehiscence of the scar.
  • If your scar is on the ankle or knee, keep in mind that it is an area in constant movement, so you should also avoid exercising in these areas during the first few weeks. If the injury is on the face, neckline or hands, avoid the sun in both winter and summer.
  • In any circumstance, I recommend using a combination of 2 essential products to guarantee the minimization of any mark or scar in an operation:
  1. First, use a sunscreen of 50 in the morning in winter or summer , and apply a healing oil as pure as possible a minimum of 2 times a day and for approximately 2-3 months.
  2. I recommend the combination of Masderm products to guarantee the recovery of the skin and avoid scar marks. On one side the sunscreen Sunmas SPF50+ and theTriphasic Facial Serum
